About Us

About Us: the Cell Detectives are members of Newcastle University’s scientific facilities. We provide researchers at the University with access to cutting-edge instrumentation. We are all recognised experts in our respective fields of: microscopy; flow cytometry, electron microscopy and lab automation.

Aims: through the provision of research-grade equipment, tailored hands-on activities and enthusiastic staff, researchers & LEGO! we hope to achieve our four main aims:

Show-case Newcastle University’s scientific facilities and the cutting-edge analytical equipment that they employ

Provide an insight into key medical and scientific research themes within the University and allow members of the public to meet scientists and question them about their work

To allow members of the public (children through to adults) to interact with research tools to see the inner working of the cell.

To evoke interest in science, microscopy and flow cytometry through a sense of involvement, allowing participants to prepare their own samples observe them and potentially build their own equipment at home

Our Events

We periodically hold outreach events in local museums (Hancock, Discovery) as well as the Life Science Centre. We also visit local schools and community groups.

Our events will be listed on this site.
